First part of Annual Tourno blessed with sunny weather.

3 weeks ago By John Anderson

Whole day of age-group football at Watchet Lane, another great success.

The first part of the 2018 Minors Tourno featured hundreds of young boys and girls from the
Under Nine groups to the Under Fourteens. Clubs from as far away as Binfield, Reading, Aylesbury, and Ickenham took part. The Organising Committeee of Sam Lewin, Matt Brades, Paul Wareham, and Jack Lubbatt, must be congratulated on the smooth running of all the day's events. Despite the Tannoy System going down at the very start! Daz Keeley organised the Match Officials who were in no particular order, the evergreen Frank Francies, Andrew Robinson, Conor & Tom Stables, James Keeley, Callum Brades, Ruairidh Barnes, Harvey Hall, Harrison Holbrook, and Luke & Dan Stokoe. Many visiting Managers were complimentary of the Tournament's timetable, organisation, and high standard of Refereeing. One minor qualm was there were not more games, despite that particular group playing from 9am until
1pm! The other feature of the day which drew acclaim was the standard of the catering, both in delivery and high quality content of especially the meat items. Chairman Rob Shed, and Cafe Queen Ange Mepham, were assisted by a phalanx of parental helpers throughout the day.

In the U-9 Competition both semi-finals went to penalties after goal-less draws in normal time.
St John’s AFC “B” beat Downley Dynamos Greens 8-7,
and Holmer Green Kites lost to Downley Dynamos Whites 2-3.
Downley Dynamos Whites won the Final 2-1.

With the U-10s, in their semis Marlow Youth beat Flackwell Heath Colts by the only goal
and Flackwell Heath Minors beat Holy Trinity Cobras 2-1.
Marlow won the Final versus Flackwell Minors 1-0.

The U-11 Colts Competition saw Gerrards Cross & Fulmer and Northwood Whites win their group
to reach the Final, where Northwood won 2-1.

In the main U-11 group Northwood Reds and Prestwood Colts reached the Final,
where the Middlesex side won by the only goal.

At U-12, the first semi saw Holmer Green lose to Penn & Tylers Green Rangers by the only goal,
and Hughenden Valley get the better of their club-mates Hughenden Hawks by a similar score.
Hughenden Valley triumphed 3-0 in the Final.

In the under 13’s semis Flackwell Heath Minors beat Bracknell Cavaliers
and Chesham United lost to Ickenham Youth “B”.
Flackwell won the Final by 2-0.

Finally at U-14, Binfield Scorpions won all their group games without conceding a goal.
But in the Final Prestwood Colts fought out a goalless draw taking the match to penalties.
This time they got the better of Binfield, winning 4-2 with kicks from the penalty-mark.

The second phase of the Tourno is next Saturday morning September 8th, from 9am until 12.30, featuring the Under Sevens and Eights.
