Enjoyable day for 30 ex-players and guests at Lambourne GC
Jez Hodges and Neville White organised the event which took place near Burnham. Tee Off began at 9.15am with groups of four or three beginning on the 1st or 10th holes. Most competitors were ex-players, and former Manager Ian Shiell made the trip up from Lymington, Hampshire. Various prizes for the actual golf went to Eliot Derby, Matt Fowler, and Neville White. While the most successful team comprised Ian Lancaster, Tim Harman, Neville, and Jez. After the Golf a two -course meal was followed by an Auction. The star item was undoubtedly 2 half-way line tickets with full hospitality for this coming weekend's Premiership match between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. There were Fourball packages snapped up for rounds at The Oxfordshire, Castle Combe, and Lambourne. Also, signed photos of George Best, Mo Salah, and Bill Shankly . Along with autographed pairs picturing Arsenal's Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry, and Spurs' Gary Lineker and Paul Gascoigne. Yours truly snapped up a team photograph of the Bon Accord Trophy winning Holmer Green side of 1994-95, the only time the Club won that Chiltonian League Cup in their 11 years membership of that Competition. The Chairman Bill Scholes, Manager Shiell, players Hodges, Stuart Moffat, and Shaun Martin were in the picture and in attendance at the auction. The not inconsiderable proceeds from the day will go to the "One Club", and further such days will surely follow after an interval of nine years since the last.
