Dads r Us see off Largentina in Final
The competition, between eight teams representing the various Age-Group Teams within the Minors Section, was divided into two groups played simultaneously.
In Group One Largentina, QPZ, Random Rangers, & Squad 4 Zero played 4 successive goalless draws. Mainly due to fine goalkeeping and near misses with the nine-a side goals in use. This Group was mainly played at a faster pace than the other group, despite the high temperatures on the day. Before the last two group games The Competition Committee decide that in case of two further goalless draws being recorded, a penalty shoot-out would take place after each of the games. Just in case all four teams finished with identical records, in points, goal difference, and goals scored. The game between Squad 4 Zero and QPZ finished 1-1, but QPZ won the shoot-out 2-0. The final game of the group between Largentina and Random Rangers went in favour of the former by 2-0. At this stage the second penalty shoot-out was not necessary, and Largentina joined QPZ in the Semi Finals.
Group Two was dominated by Dads r Us who won all their three games, scoring 11 goals and conceding only 1. Queens Park Strangers snatched the Group Runners-Up place, with a 1-0 win in the last game of the Group Stage against The Has Beens, at the expense of FC Farcelona.
The first Semi saw Largentina run out comfortable winners by 3-0 against Queens park Strangers. The second Semi ended in a 1-1 draw between Dads r Us and QPZ. Dads r Us prevailed 3-1 in the shoot out.
The closely fought Final was just shaded by Dads r Us who beat Largentina 2-1.
The fine weather and sporting behaviour of all players contributed to a great afternoon and the Club's coffers were boosted by a considerable sum.
Thanks must go to Rob, Diana, Angela and all those who manned the refreshment tables.
Also to Paul in the Control Tent, and especially Darren Keeley and James Jarrott who Refereed all the games between them.
