More Travel woe, but no pointless Appeal.

By John Anderson

Just when you thought "it can't get worse", The FA again punish Holmer Green FC with a ridiculous development!

As if moving HGFC to The Hellenic League 12 months ago wasn't enough, the FA have surpassed themselves in putting the Club's future in doubt again. By moving Ascot United
south-eastwards into The Combined Counties League, and putting Chipping Sodbury Town and then incredibly Westfields from Hereford into The UHL, Holmer Green have yet again been put into an invidious position! With Chris Allen stepping aside, and many players already unhappy with the extra travelling involved since being unwillingly transferred from the SSMFL, can truly amateur players really be expected to commit to such stupid away commitment? Ironically this new development comes at a time when the local District League
ceases to exist, and football playing (rather than the game's general popularity as a whole) is in rapid decline.
After last year's farce of an appeal to an "independent" three-man FA-appointed Committee, which basically consisted of seven persons (including a lawyer) against two HGFC representatives (one of whom wasn't allowed to speak or even point out when the FA employees present were prevaricating and withholding facts from the Committee, the Club has decided not to appeal. The Non-League grapevine suggest that of 42 such appeals only one was successful! It is already known that Chipping Sodbury Town will be appealing. As will Colney Heath and London Colney of the current SSMFL numbers along with Cockfosters , who are due to be moved to The Essex Senior League. Clubs who assumed that they were safe from lateral movement because they seemed to be geographically in he middle of their current league's catchment area have been put on alert. In SSMFL terms who, of Leighton Town, Tring Athletic, Hadley, and even Edgware Town can be sure that they are not next in line?
