Stuttering display by the Greens

Late goal from Jayden Moore secures the points against bottom of the table CB Hounslow.
Match Report Monday 15th April 2019
Allied Counties League East Division
CB Hounslow 1 Holmer Green 2.
Monday evening saw Homer Green make their second visit to CB Hounslow’s home ground in Green Lane, Hounslow which was opened two years ago and cost £1.5 million to build. This ground is more appreciated by aeronautical enthusiasts with great views of the planes constantly taking off yards away at LHR. And for parts of this match those in attendance found more interest in the sky than on the pitch.
Green’s Allied side produced another stop / start performance and displayed many of the characteristics that have seen their Championship aspirations slowly disappear over the last few matches. Against a team that have already finished bottom of the table and with only four points all season, a better performance was expected from the Greens, but they started slowly and the home side dominated the first quarter of the match with Saunders dominating the midfield area with the visitors seemingly unable to get anywhere near him. In the 9th minute CB Hounslow took the lead when a free-kick on the right saw Jordan Coyte react quicker than the defenders, to leave them standing still as he tapped home.
Holmer started to get back in the game and equalised in the 28th minute when Harrison Holbrook slotted home from close range when CB Hounslow failed to clear a corner from the right. Soon after a Perrin free-kick from his own half was turned over the crossbar by the home keeper, then Moore and Dodds combined well down the left that ended with Britton heading Dodds' cross over the bar.
HT - 1-1
Holmer took the field for the second half with the managers words of 'pass & move' ringing in their ears, but once the whistle blew the message seemed to have been lost as the home side penned them in their own half for the early minutes and Rahim blasted an effort over to give them a wakeup call. A good break by the ever willing Waterhouse created a good opportunity for Todd, but it fell to his wrong foot and the chance was lost, then soon after Moore hit a left footer just wide from inside the area as the Greens created some pressure on the home goal. A Todd corner was headed home by Britton, but the effort was disallowed for a foul on the home keeper. As the Greens continued to dominate without ever really producing the consistent passing game they are capable of, Moore fed a great pass through to Waterhouse who cut back on his right side and fired just wide of the far upright. The home side responded as Coyte hit the Greens crossbar with a thirty yard effort before Dan Broughton was forced to push out a long range shot from Saunders.
Powell replaced Todd and soon after headed on a Holbrook cross to Waterhouse who fired straight at the goalkeeper. Powell then hit a speculative 40 yarder, held with some difficulty by the replacement goalkeeper. Greens thought they might have had claims for a penalty when Moore and the goalkeeper clashed chasing a through ball, but play was waived on. Greens continued search for a winner saw Britton's shot pushed out for a corner, Powell heading just over then when another Moore effort hit the post, Flaxman did well to latch onto the ball and cross into the six yard box where the ball just eluded Powell.
Finally pressure told and with three minutes of normal time left, Greens got the chance to win the game when yet another aggressive run by the impressive Moore took him into the home penalty area where he was unceremoniously fouled and the Official had little option than to award a penalty. Treatment to a defender led to a four minute delay before the kick was taken which may have contributed to the confident Joshgun Iris having his spot-kick saved by the keeper, but he could only push it out to Jayden Moore who fired home the rebound.
Following the penalty award there were some rather unsavoury incidents between the players which needed to be dealt with by the officials and following one, Flaxman, who had only been on the field twelve minutes, rather stupidly got himself sent off for two yellow card offences leaving Greens to play out the remaining minutes with ten men, but apart from a long rage effort from Paterson that Broughton watched over his crossbar, they hung on to secure the victory.
The next and last match of the season is against Colney Heath in the League on Thursday 18th April 2019 at Watchet Lane, Holmer Green, kick-off 1945hrs.
