Wycombe Senior Cup, Quarter Final
Holyport 0 Holmer Green 5
The Greens earned a home semi with Flackwell Heath by this win, which looked far from certain at half-time. The pitch was in good condition despite this being the third match in three days. Kicking with the rain behind them the home side was very much in the game in the first half, although Dan Little was only really extended twice. The opening goal came on 14 minutes when Tom Peddle-James cut in from the right, and laid the ball off to Alex Murray. The midfielder took one touch before placing the ball carefully and firmly into the top right-hand corner of the net, from 20 yards. Tom Fifield had Holmer’s best other chance of the opening half, but lost sight of the ball under his feet as he rounded the ‘keeper. HT 0-1
With the elements behind them, Holmer had much the better of the second half. On 51 minutes Cianan Hawes centred from the left. The ball appeared to be controlled by a Holyport hand. But before the penalty appeals had subsided, Peddle–James was onto the ball to poke it past the goalkeeper. Holyport was being limited, generally, to through balls to their willing front-runner. Dean Allen provided an accurate right-wing cross for Fifield to head the third on the hour. Other chances came and went for Holmer in the final third of the game, but it wasn’t until the final minutes that the score-line was added to, and became unfair on the home side. On the stroke of normal time Fifield fed Gary Marshall, who scored his first competitive goal for Holmer from 15 yards. Then in time added-on, the home centre-back slipped allowing Peddle-James to run forward. The winger’s low cross was turned home by Allen.
