Tough schedule finally takes its toll

Goal in each half lifts Stotfold off the bottom. Oxhey Jets now favourites for last place
The Greens 10th game in 31 days proved too much to continue their recent good form. Knowing that their position of fourteenth in the league before the game could only be bettered by London Tigers of the 7 teams below them, may have put them into end of season mode at last. Even so, Tigers would need to win all their own remaining four games to overtake Holmer. Stotfold doggedly ran out winners despite Holmer having more of the play. But the home side never really troubled the away’ keeper over the 90 minutes. This result really puts Oxhey Jets, and now Cockfosters also, into contention for last place instead of the improving Bedfordshire club.
The game started off fairly evenly, but Holmer were getting on top.
However on 32 minutes, having not been at Holmer’s end for some time the visitors went ahead. A left-wing cross was diverted into his own goal by Gary Lines. From about 15 yards out the ball was deflected just inside the near post with Aaron Brown moving out to gather the original cross. Matt Wooster had t leave the field, injured four minutes later. His absence would severely impact on The Greens’ ability to create openings. HT 0-1
An improvement in the home side’s play that might have been encouraged during the half-time team-talk never happened. Lines and Jamie Britnell had chances for Holmer but couldn’t find the target. On 60 minutes Draculic finished off a long through ball with a concise lob, and Holmer never really threatened after that. Lines saw Red after retaliating to a push in the neck for which the perpetrator was only cautioned. Then Britnell followed him for an early shower after unadvisedly offering the Referee some help.
Stotfold held on comfortably, despite a trio of substitutions from the home team.
Team: Brown, Lines ©, James Burrell, Dan Hunt, Dean Munday, Ryan Parsons, Tom Fifield, Curtis Stone, Britnell, Wooster, Leo Blackman.
Substitutes Used: JJ Jarrott, Tom Peddle-James, & Mason Scott.
