Eight goals in two games boosts Holmer to 13th
Munday, Fifield 2, & Wooster, net to down 'Fosters
Holmer eventually romped to their fourth straight league win, but the score-line was very hard on their opponents who were well in the game until the last 15 minutes. Curtis Stone in for Anthony Tyson was the only change to the starting XI that hit four goals at Leverstock two days earlier. For the first 20 minutes, Holmer had more of the play. But the away side looked decidedly sharp and dangerous on the break. It seemed like the recent heavy schedule might catch up on The Greens. However, on 24 minutes a Gary Lines left-wing corner was met firmly by Dean Munday. The centre-half thumped a header off the underside of the crossbar, behind the line and into the roof of the net. Before the break Cockfosters hit the frame of each Holmer post, although the second occasion was covered by Aaron Brown from an acute angle. HT 1-0
A couple of early second half cautions for the visitors preceded an important moment on 54 minutes. The ball came back off the Holmer crossbar as an equaliser looked certain. Holmer sensed a reprieve, and within two minutes Matt Wooster set up Leo Blackmore. But the young striker was denied by a desperate last-ditch tackle. Then Tom Fifield got on the away goal on the right, but lacked composure and blasted the ball wide. After Pawel Kotwica’s usual hard work was withdrawn, Jamie Britnell came on
at 67 minutes. Seven minutes later Dan Hunt replaced Gary Lines, and the decisive goal came quickly after that. The away ’keeper received a back-pass that he didn’t really want. His hurried clearance went straight to Fifield 25 yards out. The winger kept his head this time, and slipped the ball past the stranded custodian. After Alex Rice had replaced James Burrell on 79 minutes, two minutes after the second goal. On 81 minutes the Referee inadvertently almost set up a Cockfosters chance, when the ball rebounded off him as The Greens cleared their lines. Fortunately he was able to give Holmer a free-kick for a minor foul, saving possible embarrassment. On 84 minutes James Jarrott and Blackman combined. The latter laid the ball back to Fifield who hammered a grounder through the startled ‘keeper from 20 yards.
A poor result for the Hertfordshire side was made worse on 90 minutes, when the ‘keeper could only parry a Blackman lob away.
The ball fell nicely for Matt Wooster to double his tally for the season.
