Greens shoot up to fourth, with a quarter of the season played already

Munday double gets Holmer past nine-man Windsor

The Greens moved up to the unnatural height of fourth place following this result. Holmer had fought back after conceding first, but the visitors pressed the self-destruct button either side of half-time. This ultimately and probably decided the result, but the home side did not really adapt to playing against nine men for the last half hour. With the Management team having to adjust the successful line-up from Saturday due to unavailability, The Greens continued with Jamie West and Adam Riley up front. As they had looked so productive together in the latter stages of the Ardley win. Dan Hunt dropped back to central defence with Ryan Parsons moving out, replacing Zach Crawford at right-back. James Burrell was restored to his favoured midfield role.
The steady drizzle was appreciated by two teams who play on good surfaces in their home games. Both teams played the ball about well, and each had a reasonable early chance that they failed to take. On 22 minutes the visitors broke the deadlock. Holmer’s central defence was split by a Daniel Roberts run, and he finished adroitly past Aaron Brown. Seven minutes later, Windsor thought that they had increased their lead as the ball was bundled home. But due the confusion that the Holmer defence had found itself in, Brown was far enough off his line to make it only one defender between the goal-line and the scorer when the ball made its penultimate move forward. A lucky escape for the home side, on what was almost a technicality but a correct decision. In bundling the ball into the net a visiting forward injured himself and needed over five minutes of attention before being substituted. On 38 minutes Holmer drew level. A right wing cross caught a defender out, and he could only head the ball into the path of Gary Lines. The Greens’ skipper finished off decisively from twelve yards. With three minutes of added time already played, Holmer nearly went ahead. But Dean Munday’s header from a corner was hacked off the Windsor line. This after a deflected Holmer shot had been acrobatically tipped over the crossbar by the Windsor custodian. There was still time for the first sending off. Having been cautioned already for dissent, Ocansey simulated being fouled right in front of the Referee. The man in the middle swiftly produced yellow and red cards in quick succession. Just before the half-time whistle Joffy Cox had a good chance bur screwed his effort across the goal when he might have done better. HT 1-1
The second half started with Holmer having three reasonable half-chances early on, including Parsons and West going close. But on 54 minutes their second goal did arrive. A corner caused confusion in front of the Windsor goal, and Munday swivelled to volley in a goal that any striker would be proud of. The game then took another twist eight minutes later. Again, a previous caution for dissent was the visitor’s undoing. This time Coyne quickly followed up his yellow card with an ill-advised tackle though an opponent’s legs first. But down to nine men, Windsor forced a good save out of Brown immediately. For the next thirty minutes they made light of the two man disadvantage. The Greens did not make use of the situation, and the visitors looked well capable of getting back into the match. On 74 minutes, soon after Cox saw a chance provided by the ever-dangerous Riley pass just beyond the post from a diving header, Munday scored again. This time from a Curtis Stone corner. After about 80 minutes Windsor created another couple of chances, but their efforts were fielded comfortably by Brown. The home side were getting forward regularly but their passing was sloppy and not as sharp as earlier.
The two goal cushion, however, proved to be enough.
