Holmer overcome Tring with late surge
On a damp evening, The Greens fielded James Burrell, Dan Hunt, and Lewis Workman, all of whom didn’t play on Saturday at Brimscombe. Tring were a very young side, and pushed Holmer all the way before being edged out at the end. The first half produced chances at either end, but it was the home side that went in at half-time courtesy of a late goal. Workman got in a low cross along the goal-line from the right, and James Britnell turned it in. An almost identical goal to that scored against Longlevens, just 10 days previously. HT 1-0
Whatever was said in the respective dressing rooms at half-time, it was the away side’s team-talk that had the immediate effect. Within 6 minutes they had equalised following a good left wing run and centre. Then on 55 minutes yet more lax marking allowed their centre-forward to volley past Aaron Brown from 12 yards. Fortunately The Greens had a strong bench of personnel on hand, and two substitutions were enough to turn the game around. Dean Powles made for a different type of spearhead to Britnell, and Pawel Kotwica had shrugged off the injury picked up so early at Brimscombe. Holmer levelled on 70 minutes when Dean Munday converted a cross from Gary Lines with a typical header. Taking the centre-half onto four for the season. Then with roughly ten minutes remaining, the Tring defence let a ball through. Apparently unaware that Workman and Joffy Cox were on hand. The latter took the ball and beat the ‘keeper, for his second winning goal of the campaign.
