Holmer tamely concede local derby

No comfort to be taken from poor display

The Greens failed to repeat their form in midweek when they gave Maidenhead a good game. Heath’s recent winning form was more than enough to edge this match comfortably. Already without Dean Powles and Gary Lines, Joffy Cox succumbed to a hamstring strain during warm-up. James Britnell and Pawel Kotwica started up front. Holmer conceded two goals at home for the fifth successive time in just 19 days. But considering the amount of good ball that Flackwell had in the final third, the home defence did not do too badly. It looks like being a long season for The Greens, even though they have already clocked up 23 league matches. Aaron Brown was called into action as early as the fourth minute, making a good save. The visitors went ahead deservedly on 21 minutes. With Holmer contriving to miss three tackles near halfway and with central defence having to cover, the ball was switched across the pitch to the left it was two against one. The two Heathens outmanouvered Zach Crawford, and the ball was despatched cleanly beyond Brown from an angle. Holmer lost Mason Scott for a similar reason to Cox’s, Ryan Parsons going into central defence with Dean Hunt pushing up. Despite being second best, The Greens should have equalised just before the break. Kotwica got beyond the away defence but pulled his lob just wide of the goal, with the ‘keeper well beaten. HT 0-1
After Brown had made another early save, Britnell chipped the ball over the defence for Lewis Workman to run onto. But the latter slipped at the vital moment. The pitch was certainly not to blame, as it was in perfect condition despite the rain of the past few days. Any Holmer comeback never really looked likely, and the game was settled on 76 minutes. The Greens were undone down their left. The low cross was diverted into his own net by Dean Munday, as he desperately tried to prevent the perfect centre reaching an oncoming forward. The game ended with a red card for a visiting player, who unwisely got in a petulant flick at Curtis Stone right in front of the Referee.
